- Have turned off NAT firewall. On my machine all outgoing connections
are whitelisted from my machine (incoming are logged, nothing...)

- On the windows machine, (XP home. Tbird) No grisoft only the standard
    XP firewall

On my machine I can send text emails (presumably less than the 24567
bytes). On the windows machine, ditto

If the same problem is on both windows and debian then the only area in
common is the modem / router?

Any recommendations? did someone have a modem router on the boards?
