Re: [LUG] Libranet Debian

Hi Grant

Further to last email.

PB pinged everything, Libranet nothing. I know the NIC is fine because I installed Lindows and it worked with that! The router was recognised by the PB so that is fine.

If Matt is reading this could he tell me how to precisely get the details from OS X? I think I am getting them right! Mac OS X is using DHCP. Should I have another go with Libranet and DHCP... but then will that be any better if they're not talking now?

I know this is silly but I'll ask it anyway, can I reverse the cable? Will that work?

What are the results?
If Libranet can ping nothing (except 127), but the PowerBook can ping all except Libranet, then Libranet is the problem.
Check the IP address. Check the default gateway. Check that the NIC is actually being recognised (you can see if it's present but not configured by using "ifconfig -a"). Check that the NIC is actually seated in the slot (bit extreme, but you never know!).
If neither can ping anything (except 127) then the problem is likely to be your switch (or router if it's a multi-port router).
If it's a separate switch, try another. If it's a multiport router, then try another port or complain bitterly and get a replacement unit.
If neither can ping the router but can ping eachother, then your router's having a hissy fit. Probably something to do with default routes.
Is your router actually routing traffic? I'm not sure how to do this over a Web/GUI... have you got command line access to your router?
If neither can ping google but can ping everything else fine, then your router's ISP connection is the problem.
Make sure the details you've entered are *spot on*. Try rebooting the router. Complain to the ISP if it's not your end that's at fault.

Grant.
