[LUG] mouse in suse 7.3

I have suse 7.3 on my laptop,  I am currently using an external mouse,
(there is a touch pad but I prefer the external mouse on my desk).
Sometimes the Mouse cursor is just stationery,  and does not move (even if I
disconnet the mouse and try using the touch pad).

I can fix with ctrl-alt-backspace.  Does anyone else have a similar problem,
