The traditional advice is that serif fonts are used as *body* text - ie
the main body of a longer document, typically in sizes from 10 - 12
points. 

Sans serif fonts are used for *display* text - ie headings and
subheadings - in sizes from 16 points upwards. 

In the given cases, readability *is* improved for body text in serif.
There's quite a bit of research to back this up although I couldn't
point you to it offhand.

Two things to consider about the poster
1       What size is it to be? Many people are wary about putting up
        anything too big.

2       Having everything down the centre is clear but a bit static. An
        asymmetric design would give it more life. For instance, move
        all the top part of the post across to the right and make it
        right-aligned. Move the lower part across to the left, left-
        aligned.
