I watched Hannah's video on Hermes - similar to Openclaw. An entertaining watch. We have been spoilt for choice by chinese models. GLM-5.3 Flash (my current model of choice), Deepseek v4 Flash Vision Exp, qwen 3.8 flash next, and yesterday, Mimo-2.6 Flash. Very little from open weights from western states, they're just not joining the party - certainly a bit of an AI war footing. The US will consider AI a munition now, just like they did with cryptography - it only went away once they realised everyone had OCR'd PGP algorithms and implemented it for themselves (or as a conspiracal note. When the NSA cracked it with quantum computers nobody knows exist). Hannah Fry did a video on OpenClaw a few months back which was interesting: https://youtu.be/WnzR5aOElvw I hear interesting things about the latest DeepSeek model released two weeks ago, which is Open Source code, and open weight model, but the training data is closed, which surely is the ultimate in "binary blob". They have limited hardware to run the model, so are forced to optimise the performance, and are reporting massive reductions in memory usage, and compute resources, by changing the architecture. I'm not sure I want a model trained in an authoritarian state on unknown training data, but it may be more free than most LLMs. Presumably DeepSeek is trained on a Chinese Government approved subset of the Internet, or maybe not?!
