The job posting is a little weird. I assume it is supporting the Met Office Cray
and then they mention SAP....

Some Years ago, my experience interviewing for the MET Office for a networking role was rather strange. The role information didn't really explain what type of systems the successful applicant would be working on or what specific skills they were looking for, but I had heard from the press that they were re-vamping their HPC stuff, I answered their first question "What do you know about the MET Office?" with that I'd heard about that and it had generated some interest for me. For the entire interview I didn't receive a single technical question, all the questions were about how I would handle a particular situation with other colleagues, what processes I would follow for a security incident etc... There was zero focus on technical ability. I'm guessing that they thought I was too senior / experienced to get my hands dirty with technical stuff.

I didn't get the job, and when I asked why I was simply told "Don't hesitate to re-apply for the MET Office again". I guess they found me amiable. I would hesitate as I think it is important to gauge technical ability first, and then think about whether a person can follow procedures, and fit in with the existing team later on in the process, particularly when the candidate selection process starts with a telephone interview, as you can't really tell what a person is like until you meet them face to face.
