G'day all,

Anyone done this and who would you recommend? (Gordon maybe along in a minute!)
There is no internet on the line just a number and I want to connect
it to asterisk. Think the line is on a DACS as well.
OK, so I had a BT Business Line and Internet (Infinity 2, so 70Mbps or
so), off of this I was running various services, but also had a server
in co-lo for services. Over time prices went up and BT was charging
substantially more for Internet than what Virgin Media Business could
provide me, the co-lo was also getting more expensive, so I cancelled
both the co-lo and BT and went with Virgin Media, so now I had no landline.
I got a local number through dmClub and requested that they allow
configuration as a SIP trunk to my Asterisk PBX. It works, more or less,
could probably configure some QoS to make things a bit better. It's very
cheap, and through an extension IVR we can accept simultaneous inbound
and make concurrent outbound calls without an issue.
BT suggested that we have keep the line as a backup when we were
cancelling our contract, but I told them I already have a 4G router, and
we have multiple mobile phones on premises to make calls in an emergency.
Given the such low volume of land line calls, dmClub is pretty cheap,
something like £15 rental for a phone number per year, and minimal
charges for outbound calls.
For the co-lo, this has been replaced a single VM instance in Azure with
VPN back to a pfsense gateway.
In total we're saving £2000 per year on previous BT and co-lo costs.
