Re: [LUG] USB stick does not display

Hi Neil,

What are your display options set to? In Mint for example I can choose whether to display mounted drives on the desktop or not. Are they present if you open the Computer dialogue box?

Kind regards,

Julian

I am having some problems with my USB sticks. When I insert them, they do not display anything on the screen. I checked via lsusb, and the sticks are showing in the list as an extra line of information. They just do not display on the screen. This applies to several sticks that I have tried.

Strangely, I also have an external hard drive which works just fine every time, and displays as an icon on the desktop and also automatically opens up the relevant directory to show the contents. It is only most of the sticks which don't work.

And, again very strange, I have several USB sticks of varying sizes and ages. Just one of them works as expected every time. All the others fail.

Weird or what? Can anyone suggest how I can get the sticks to display, both as a new icon on the desktop, and then opening up my file manager to show the contents?

This applies to my desktop, running Linux Lite, and to my laptop which is running MX Linux. Same symptoms on both.

Thanks,

Neil
