Mint is good as it looks a little like windows in terms of the menu.

However I would go with which ever you feel most comfortable supporting.

Maybe worth inviting her to join the lug list too, that way we can all
provide some degree of support (answering questions at least) and any
practical support can be undertaken at Lug meets.

First step is to id the hardware, then perhaps dual boot to begin with.
