Thanks for the numerous replies. More replies than I'd expected were
"I run my own" so I decided to give that a try. I bought a toy domain
and rented a cheap Hetzner VPS, running Debian stable, to experiment
with, which so far is going OK. I'm sending this message from it.
The ipv4 address at Hetzner was clean on blacklists, last I checked,
and so far no mail has been outright rejected or auto-filed to
/dev/null that I can tell.
One thing I am a little concerned over: on a scale of 'recommended' to
'insane', how sensible is it in the Spectre era to trust a VPS to
remain secure?
