As a result of this topic I have made a Linuxmit 18.3 64 bit boot flash disk. Something to add, having two (or dualboot) may be handy, one with a OS like mint which is great, but another one, perhaps with a less resource intensive distro for any older hardware, netbooks, or less memory. as for creating the disk i used dd sudo dd if=linuxmint-18.3-cinnamon-64bit.iso of=/dev/sdc does what is said on the tin, as they say. it just works. Use lsblk to work out the device name / reference for the target drive.
