I have a desktop, a laptop and a mini laptop. They all run Linux Lite
3.6. My wife also has a laptop which also runs Lite. Recently she has
had a bit of trouble with the screen, where sometimes the letters and
the icons are not shown properly, and they are difficult or even
impossible to read. The other three machines do not have this problem.

I have found that the only way to clear it is to shut down the machine
and to restart. Sometimes I can manage that by guessing where the
relevant icons are situated. Sometimes I have to do a hard shut down by
holding down the power button until it turns off.

This does not happen all the time, just occasionally. Often it occurs
after an update, but not always. I am not a hardware sort of guy, but I
am wondering if this is a sign that the screen is failing. The machine
is not so old, got it from pcspecialist in June 2013. So I am asking for
ideas and helpful suggestions please,

thanks,

If it happens after an update, is the screen resolution being reset to
the wrong figure. I have an old laptop that has screen resolution
1440x900 and I have to reset screen resolution when using a Live Linux
as they do not find that resolution. The hard disc is Ok on OpenSUSE as
it keeps the 1440x900 after an update.

I have to reset my graphics using the nVidia tool on each reboot - my hardware is a bit weird and xorg.conf confuses it.

I reboot probably once a month so it's no hardship but it does bug me...
