I'm on Xubuntu 16:04 and trying to configure my laptop - with USB mouse Logitech RX250 for Blender which uses a lot of middle mouse buttons
but I'm stymied:

I've tried xinput --set-prop 'Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse' 'Evdev Wheel Emulation Button' 3

where 3 is a variety pf numbers tried but nothing seems to get MMB emulation working on blender.

Any clues?

Further to this I've tried

Âxev -event mouse| grep Button --before-context=1 --after-context=2

and I get all the buttons (including rocking the scroll wheel left and right) but not the button Middle so I'm wondering if its being trapped somewhere.

After much headbanging and screaming at the supermoon I have found this may be a kernel bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1581088?comments=all
