This particular scam, however, has not been running since December 2005. http://www.snopes.com/fraud/telephone/pds.asp
I thought they can charge a max of Â5 per minute on 05 numbers or something?
0500 is free. 0555x is variable rate and I have from 1.5p to 6p a minute for them.056x is (was) a supossedly VoIP call but no-one really uses it (and I charge 2p a minute to call it)
Hm. Checking my latest rate sheet, the most expensive UK call is to 08440035... and 08440556... another reason to avoid 0844 numbers. (getting on for Â2 a minute - more expensive than some 09 numbers!)
118505 (BT Dir Enq) is stupidly expensive too. If you want to check call rates, then this site: http://www.telecom-tariffs.co.uk/codelook.htmis a usefull one to use. Their prices are based on the standard BT rates - calls from other networks may vary, as they say.
