I think that the lawmakers were ready and willing to give GCHQ the
powers, if they hadn't already, and 7/7 and 9/11 were just the easiest
way to "sell" it to the general public. My cynicism at work again.

As things stand, I'm not really bothered by it. Of course, if things
change, my opinion or attitude regarding this may change too.
