My partner has a 3DS XL and although it is a neat piece of technology the games are a rip-off and the selection is poor so I wouldn't recommend it.

I also have a Nexus 7 which is excellent and although it is probably more money than you want to spend the form factor is great for games just the right size and weight for gaming although the screen is rubbish outside.
