I can think of many adsl modem/router devices that will export their logfiles to a syslog server...

Netgear routers above £50 generally fit in to this category ime.

You used to be able to buy pci adsl modems. Why not make a box with one in and create your own log files. Probably wont cost alot.

My BB is frequently US. If it happens in the evening (as it did last
night) or at the weekend it normally remains out until around 7.45-8am
on the first 'working' day and then comes back on and half an hour later
I get a call saying the line has been tested and no fault found.
My theory is that there is an alarm in the exchange and when someone
comes in the reset/clear it... and then run the tests.
Does anyone know of a router that can log things 'properly' at my end so
I can swear at BT with confidence?

My router will log to  a 'log server'  but has the unfortunate habit of locking up completely when the ADSL goes down - it just runs out of memory I think.  I will see if I can set a log server going, it will be a lot of data though!
I call my ISP when it goes wrong and they refer the problem to BT  but the bastards don’t do anything until 'next working day' so if it goes out on a friday afternoon I'm stuck till monday or tuesday on bank holidays. I doubt if any ISP's could get access to Bradworthy exchange ...
