Have you tried doing a
history | grep sudo
to see when you changed or altered sudo?
if you accidentally changed the root pw by doing
sudo passwd!
you should not have set the root password on Ubuntu but if you did by
mistake
so try
su - {enter the root pw } if it works
you may be able to get back to where you started
by doing visudo
root should look like this
root All=(All) All
%admin All=(All) All
the admin entry is if you are in that group
check using
id
