[LUG] iso burning (software)

Hi

Currently using lubuntu 11.10 (from ubuntu 11.10)

When burning iso's to a cd-r or dvd-r I seem to have mixed results

1. Using right click and write to cd, by default brassero (or what
ever its called) pops up, the actual target device is available in a
drop down, but even when selecting it that field is displayed as blank.
It knows the target just won't display it properly.

so ignoring this, setting burn speed to a slower setting, then hitting
burn all that seems to happen is a box pops up with a status thing going
back and forth. (sorry do NOT Know technical name for this) this goes
on for ages, with messages referring to the iso or burning to cd. But
nothing seems to happen for ages so its preparing the image to be copied
over etc.

Now doing the similar operation using k3b is a dream, select target and
it actually stays visible, when it's actually burning it comes up with
messages as to what it is doing, and what it has called up in order to
do so. It also checks the iso for errors and comes up with a checksum
etc, All very polished

has anyone else noticed something similar between software esp between
gnome and kde apps. If others have similar issues with brassero then
maybe there is a common problem somewhere.

What does strike me is the k3b does not censor (if you call it that)
technical stuff hence you know what it is doing, even if that message is
pretty much technotalk, so in some ways if it goes wrong, you get a
error and know where it's going wrong as in it calls up x, can't do
something and application x displays an error, where as with brassero
you get all this censored i assume not to scare new users away and have
no idea what is going on. esp when things go wrong.
