The monitor is not within the Ubuntu system for auto recognition so downgrades the screen to a low (safe) resolution.. I have had this often with Ubuntu live discs. There is a considerable amount of stuff on how to alter resolution in command lie on Ubuntu forum (I think) (Not at present using Ubuntu) On 11/06/12 14:24, raymond.knowles@xxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote:Hi All, I'm having some grief with screen resolution. Running 3 machines (Win ME, Win XP and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS into a KVM switch, driving a Samsung SyncMaster E1920 LCD monitor. Both Windows machines power up the display in the desired size of 1280 x 1024, whereas the Ubuntu machine can only manage 800 x 600. Previously the system worked at 1280 x 1024 on all 3 machines, using a Dell monitor (model unknown). Have any members experienced a similar problem before, and how did they get round it ? Over to you! Regards etc, Ray.
Ray I feel your pain.I have a Samsung SyncMaster 730MW as a secondary monitor and have tried off and one for about 18 months to get the advertised resolution. I still haven't quite got it right and the acreage Linux gives me is bigger than the monitor so my windows appear slightly off-screen when launched or dragged across from my Primary (LG Flatron - very good).
Sorry. I've nothing else to offer. :( Martin -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
