More dirty tricks?

Indeed ..

However this was tried 10 years ago under the banner of "trusted computing" or something...

And I did have a PC that had a BIOS locked to the installed Win. It would not boot Linux. The PC was supplied by HP as part of a laptop backup system running some variant of WinXP... (It outlived its usefullness as a backup device so I thought I'd try to make it useful again - failled, but didn't try too hard)

I suspect socketted BIOSes will make a comeback and people will simply sell re-flashing services (assuming you can't still boot a manufacturer CD to allow reflashing)

This is the bit I find interesting - if you cant run rescue CD's then there’s going to be a lot of borked machines lying around. Now I know in theory you will be able to run signed rescue CD's but practically????
