Hello Gordon,

Printing used to be easy - see my previous whinges about it )-: Now
with all this CUPS stuff, it's bloated and hard.

Ignore CUPS, use hplip instead for setting up HP machines.

Aparently cups is using that already.

what's now happening is that the inkjet will print 5/6 of a page then stop, then nothing. If you power cycle the printer, it will start again and re-start the print job - while viewing the print queue shows nothing in the queue.

Meanwhile, it will have disabled the printer and the only way to re-enable it is via entering the root password - something I'd really not expect an ordinary user to have to do every f'ing time )-:

Printing to the laserjet is fine.

Now, it could be a hardware issue, however for some months previous the printer was working just fine under windoze XP, so I'm doubtful.

Sane actually works from it too - it's a combined scanner/printer with various card readers. As a printer it's reasonably well spec'd and I recall it costing about 80 quid some years back.

It even has an Ethernet port, so I'm considering using that rather than USB in-case it's something there that's amis - who knows.

... Hanging onto her old PC for a while yet, but it'll be up for sale soon, assuming we can get Skype going.. (offers ... :)
