Re: [LUG] IPv6 tunnelling

Yep, it works well.
This gives you a /64 subnet, which your router (or main routed computer) has and can assign custom IPs inside your personal subnet. It's all publically accessible, etc, unless you use ip6tables to restrict the privilege.

Another option is Miredo (a teredo client, hosted by Debian or ms), which lets your personal computer have its individual ip on Miredo's /48. Handy if you don't have router access or want to do it through evil firewalls or your router doesn't support it.

Cheers

Hi folks,

I was reading an article on The Register earlier about the goings on with IPv4 and IPv6. ÂSomeone in the comments said that they have been using the IPv6 Tunnel Broker from Hurricane Electric Internet Services - http://tunnelbroker.net/

I'm thinking of giving this a try, mainly so I can get my head round IPv6 a bit better for when the time comes that my ISP (Virgin) support it (not sure when that'll be, I've heard rumours though that the new 'Super Hub' will support IPv6 with a firmware upgrade, although I dare say maybe a lot of routers would, if ISPs supported IPv6 and manufacturers provided such updates).

I think I have a basic grasp of the idea of tunnelling, I've tunnelled over SSH to my home server from my mobile and from my laptop when I'm out to compress the connection, but I was wondering if this IPv6 tunnelling was similar?

I guess that basically I get an IPv6 address assigned to my machine and then it tunnels requests over the tunnel and comes out at their gateway at the other end?

Has anyone tried this tunnelling service?

Ta,

Rob
