As my new computer comes with 6 USB ports I thought to run lsusb in a
terminal just to check them out. To my surprise I found that the
output listed only 5.

So I thought, check them with my USB memory stick. I tested all six
ports and they all worked! So now I am wondering, if all 6 ports are
present and working why did lsusb show only 5?

Any one any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Do you have any internal USB ports or any un-used USB headers on the
motherboard? It may well be that some of the ports are actually part of
an integrated USB hub.

Grant.

As this is a new computer and I am not very savvy about hardware I am not sure how it is set up. I was just told that the computer would have 6 USB ports and indeed it does seem to be so.

Oh well, never mind, they all work which is the important part I suppose. I was a bit puzzled, that is all.

So far so good with the computer. I am certainly learning a lot about all the changes over the last three years!!
