Have a look at tier1online.com, they have some little Dell Latitude D410's on there for £129 [1]. They're only 12.1" notebooks (so not much bigger than a netbook) and only have a Pentium M 1.7GHz CPU, 80GB hard drive and 1GB Ram (and Windows XP) but something like that would probably be ideal.
Doesn't have a CD drive though, but hey, why not bung on Ubuntu (or if it comes to it you can probably make a bootable Windows XP USB stick to install from or get hold of a cheap external USB DVD drive (they should boot from USB stick/USB DVD, at least the Latitude 620, it's bigger brother did).
In fact at that price I'd be tempted to pick one up myself if I didn't already have my existing laptop.
