The beatings won't stop until all scripts handle spaces in file names correctly (I know mine don't) or we admit defeat and change the file systems to allow only a limited set of sensible characters in file names.

Ah yes. Spaces in filenames. Actually came as a surprise to me when I first started to use Unix (c1982) after a couple of years of the Apple II which allowed spaces then using a couple of horrible ancient system which didn't.

And don't forget to use $@ in bash scripts rather than $* too ;-)

(Unless you mean to use $* in which case... )
