Re: [LUG] Paignton Library Venue Options

Today Peter, Paul and I (sounds like some sixties glam band) went down
to the new Paignton library. Very impressive ... There are several rooms
the main one (which divides into three sections) can be hired for £7 an
hour (for non profits). There are also other rooms for hire including a
smaller room (similar to the size we met Adrian in) for £4 an hour.

That sounds good, I'm thinking for a standard LUG meeting maybe the smaller room would suffice?

I suppose it depends on what we want to do though, maybe if say 5 or 6 of us turned up and spread the cost and said had 4 hours (12 until 4) then it wouldn't be too much each.

The library is open for 7 hours on a Saturday (9am to 4pm) so that will
come to £49. I am happy to underwrite that cost so long as this
community can find the money for event insurance (which I am sure is our
responsibility not the libraries).

Did you check about this?

I am proposing to hire the smaller room for a November meet so as to
give other members the opportunity to check out the facilities if they
so wish. There is a coffee shop at the bottom which is little pricey but
no where near "shoreline" prices, and I guess the prices cover the rent
of the library space, which in turn subsidies the library which is a
good public institution (even if it is run by Torbay Council).

Sounds good.

Who know being based in the library we might get some "foot fall" from
library users?

Possibly. I'll have to try and get over to the library, I'd be interested to know if they have any books on Linux or FLOSS software. If not I wonder if we could suggest books on say Ubuntu, OpenOffice and The Gimp? (I'm assuming books exist for The Gimp and OpenOffice).

When I have arranged a date some Saturday in November I will let you all
know. It will be your opportunity to see the venue, give your input and
sign up to doing something for SFD 2011.

Great! I drove past the library earlier on the way to a disability awareness event in Clennon Valley, looks very impressive from the outside. In a way it reminds me of the library in Norwich.

If you could let me know by off list email to myself if you are
interested in attending meeting in November and or contributing to SFD
2011 I would appreciate it.

Yep I'm certainly interested, I'd be happy to chip in towards the room hire on the November meet.
