hi all,i tried peppermint and it works.thank you rob.and to make things even better i plugged in a tp-link cardbus,tl-wn310g and it worked straight away as did the surecom ethernet card.
it is a little sluggish but i can live that.thank you all for your suggestions,now i know i got an os that works i will play around with some others.
