dvd cd drive... im booting off a usb with ubunto. i got it up and running on the usb and  partinioned the hard drive (to save all my stuff as i dont have a external hard disk,  meaning i cant just format and start afresh) then went into the install but it stopped half way through and now when i reboot i get a "glib warning" - unknown user

Do you mean CD or DVD drive or do you mean the internal Hard Disc drive?
