Re: [LUG] Software hunt: Something to solve equations

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I got this first time round:

5a(3b+2a)-a(2a+3c)
= 15ab + 10a² - 2a² + 3ac
= 15ab + 3ac + 8a²

I typed "simplify 5a(3b+2a)-a(2a+3c)" into wolfram and got:

8a² + 15ab - 3ac

So I see where I went wrong - easy to lose a sign when you're not used
to them (that's my excuse anyway).

I installed Maxima for kicks as it looks great for all sorts of things
I have incoming, but I don't really get the input system just yet, I'm
just getting an error "Syntax error: A is not an infix operator", so
I'll stick with wolfram for now and get a better look at Maxima when
I'm less pressed for time.
