Re: [LUG] top post or bottom

Well, I read mails from here in Gmail, which turns the conversation into a threaded view, and hide the quoted text. I top post cos it;s email standard these days, unless there is specific chunks i want to reply to.
Actually it's a 'Microsoft' standard. It makes more sense to bottom post. You don't read a letter bottom to top, so why do e-mail that way either?

With bottom posting, you can read what was already said, and then the reply flows along nicely. Otherwise you're reading the reply first and wondering what is going on (it's especially annoying for long replies) and then eventually coming to the original text.

Bottom posting also makes it easier to put in answers to questions as you go along.

So yeah, I'd say it's Microsoft's fault (I can't remember what Lotus cc:Mail did), every e-mail application from Microsoft that I have known since the original Microsoft Mail on Windows 95 has done top posting AFAIK.

Saying that for some e-mails I do top post just for the sake of the recipient who has been brought up the Microsoft way (although it annoys the crap out of me as I have Thunderbird and Mutt configured to bottom post).

Some light reading for you...
