Re: [LUG] WIRELESS CARD

I had a linksys PMCIA wlan card needed much looking into. Based on the ironically named "Libertas" chip, it needs ndiswrapper. Luckily once I found the drivers it was easy on mint. wpc54g v5, in case anyone's wondering which one to avoid.

Problem is, you cant really go by manufacturer. They (for good business reasons) buy in chips from whoever's cheaper with each model. In windows, not a problem, just provide Windows drivers. The rest of us....

I would just choose any one. Maybe unless it's bcm43xx. They work but require fiddling as the manufacturer doesn't like Linux very much.

I have had a rt61pci, a iwl3945 and a ath5k and they've all worked out of the box. Linux is very good nowadays, for hardware, especially Mint. 99.99% of the time you'll find everything works nowadays.
