Hi Julian

My wife shudders when this topic comes up. I once saw a perfectly able bodied man get out of a disabled space. I challenged him to move the car and he showed me his disabled badge which when questioned was for his daughter. No daughter was present.
Hi Rich,

This is the kind of behaviour my original email was referring to, the abusers of the system[1] and I'm pleased to hear there are right-minded people such as you who will stand up to them. I understand and appreciate my last comments raised some ire, however I do have to reiterate that my need for a disabled parking space is permanent and does not depend on good or bad days. The symbol for a disabled space is a stylised icon of a person in a wheelchair, and the space is wider than standard to accommodate a wheelchair. I must admit on that basis to querying why someone who can walk at all requires the extra space? Obviously there are cases of people with walking frames or other walking aids who need the car door fully open and I appreciate those cases exist, however if one is able to stand up unaided and exit the car, is the extra width - that is essential for a wheelchair user for example - actually required?

Kind regards,

Julian

[1] Please note I am NOT now, and never have, accused anyone on this list or their relatives or dependants of abusing the system.
