Hope the following are helpful

Genes by Levin is the classic textbook. Now on version 9
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Genes-IX-Benjamin-Lewin/dp/0763752223

Introduction to Genetic Analysis by Griffis et al. Now on version 9 too.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Introduction-Genetic-Analysis-Anthony-Griffiths/dp/0716799022/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251802245&sr=1-1

Molecular Cell Biology by Lodish. Sixth edition is most current. This is
more for general molecular biology, but a good resource if you don't
have a wider biochemistry background.

Older editions are okay, but if possible get the latest ones. The topic
does move forward at quite a rate, and things like snRNA's were not
heard of a few editions ago. Full genome sequencing and comparison was
also not possible till recent years, so may not be in them.

Those are all pretty heavy (literally and metaphorically) books. I find
the "Instant Notes" series good for 'lighter' reading.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Instant-Notes-Genetics/dp/041537619X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251802384&sr=1-1

Plus Dawkins early books are good to understand the power of genetics &
evolution. Blind Watchmaker, Selfish Gene and Extended Phenotype are
worth it, the rest arent.
