Re: [LUG] St. Neot computer barn?

The design for the cupboards. Better write it up, but you are welcome to use it.
The cost was still £100 per unit. We were sponsored by Gemini FM.

I would comment that we put flat screens and a chunky server on the system so not much was actually recycled in the end.

Also the time to do it was bigger than I anticipated. Also you need a good plan to use it too.

Doing something similar to what Rob and Tom did at exwick would be
useful, either that even if we just put a few recycled computers in
there running ubuntu, it would help them out a little,

either that perhaps as a group we have enough bits and pieces between us
to wire in a computer network and a few ports, so even if we can't
supply the computers having several cat 5 ports around the room would be
handy for meetings, ok also have wireless if we can get the kit.

Do you have a google map location for St Neot, perhaps we can have a
meeting where we set stuff, up.

With regard to the computers getting damaged, I think trevor at the
exwick centre has released his designs for cupboards open source, so
that could be worth looking at. end of the day its a risk one has to
take, i think the less hardware that is exposed to the public the
better, keyboards / mice can be replaced easily, even though that is
not the point someone has to pay for replacements.
