Ahh yes the P4 chips are known to be power hungry, stick too of them on 
one chip and well, you could probably heat your entire house! (Okay, 
maybe not, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a fair whack of 
heat off it).

 From what I have read on the net, the Atom is supposed to offer around 
the same sort of performance as a P4 at the same clock speed but at a 
much lower power usage.  Can't say how accurate that is though as I 
haven't got an Atom.  But saying that for web browsing, e-mail and most 
stuff I'm sure a dual core 1.6GHz machine would probably do the job.  I 
find that the majority of the time I run my laptop at around 800Mhz 
(it's a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo) and it works perfectly fine (yes, even in Vista!).
