I've noticed a trend for boards to have fewer PCI expansion slots.
Especially those which use entirely passive cooling of the CPU and chipset.
Ironically there don't appear to be that many USB connected ATAs, even
though many current machines, including "netbooks", come with a generous
supply of USB ports.

Many of these are actually "winmodems", but a random winmodem is
unlikely to have the appropriate driver support.
