 From reading the article I was under the impression that the OU wasn't 
going to ditch M$ and just was saying it wasn't trying to promote any 
specific vendor.

Personally I can't see why they can't offer copies of at least 
OpenOffice.org and maybe also Linux distros too for students to use if 
need be.

Personally I wouldn't touch an OU course with a 10 foot barge pole now, 
not until at least they admit they screwed up, see these articles for
