I am looking through these files. However, I first "fiddled" yesterday,
so what I will have is today's changes.
only difference is
KeepAlive on (cups.conf) KeepAlive off (the last change I did)
both have:
SystemGroup lpadmin
User lp
Group lpadmin

the cups.conf.default has
SystemGroup lpadmin
and does not seem to define User or Group
it has Listen localhost:631

whereas the .conf and .conf.O have
Listen *:631
I don't know if that matters.

The only change I remember was network settings > hostname lookups > on
(now back to off).

In the Print Manager, I don't think I changed anything, though there is
a password in the account information, under my user name. I cannot
remember if there was one before and I am not prompted for it. The store
password in configuration file is not checked.

Interesting that if I use the escputil to check ink levels I get the
answer, so, surely that means the printer is connected properly.
