AIUI, it's the paying for it part, that's illegal.  If programme
_makers_ put (say) Heinz beans right in front of the camera, that's
their business.  Of course, it's likely that a bung will have been
taken, but proving it would be difficult.

Occasionally, this topic (PP) has cropped on things like Points Of
View.  There's always some lame explanation.  Something along the lines
of "We can't be monitoring that sort of thing all the time, it costs
too much" or "We have to show items that are realistic.  Occasionally
this means putting brand names on TV screens".

All bull, of course.  As pointed out when a mobile rings;  It's not
*necessary* to zoom in on the logo.  99.9% of the population know what
a mobile 'phone is.
