Re: [LUG] seprating audio

I like to listen to tunes which are on my computer through my
stereo. What I don't like is it being interemixed with system
sounds. I wish I could have one set of sounds coming though the PC and
one set through the stereo.
Is there a route for that?

Pulseaudio

It's designed to do exactly what you're describing. Now, the particulars of how to set it up may get a little hairy, but the basic idea is there. It allows you to nominate a target 'sink' for every sound producer. So, I'm pretty sure you'll need a separate soundcard for every destination (computer speakers, stereo, etc), but once you have that, you can use Pulseaudio to send all audio output from a particular app to a sink of your choice, or even switch them on the fly.

I use it to quickly switch between my speakers and a usb headset that I keep lying around.
