The only way to get my Epson 2480 scanner to work in PCLinuxOS was to pinch the Windows driver package from the firmware CD THEN it worked - I suspect it will be the same with the 3490.

The only distro that I have had any luck with my Epson 2480 scanner is SuSE
using their Epson iscan package.

Fortunately I rarely use a scanner and can therefore, work with Debian most of
the time.
