Myself also being Bristolian born & bred but now living in Plymouth for the
last ten years I can confirm that Bristol is not the center of the west
country.

However I still regard it as going home when I visit "Bristle"

I remember a sign at Temple Meads saying "Home of the real West Country",
not the south West which makes sense to me.
South is down and we are a long way down from Bristol.
