I use XMing to provide an XServer on Windows machine, then SSH into the *nix box (allowing X forwarding using Putty) and run the GUI app from there. Or did you mean "an X session is already in progress on the *nix machine, and I want to interact with it"? If so, you could look at things like xrdp. Cheers.
