Presuming the laptop has a network interface you can make a boot floppy then 
install over the network/Internet. Debian can boot the installer from two 
floppies then install from a web/FTP server. You could also network boot 
using BOOTP and TFTP (if that laptop supports it) but that's a lot more 
effort.
