Good old fast internet, what ever did we do before it? (actually, I remember, spending a month downloading RedHat on dialup!) Rob -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/linux_adm/list-faq.html I'm not certain I will be downloading ubuntu at the moment. While I had been using ubuntu for a while now edgy & fiesty I have been getting complete system lockups. Mouse will move but not able to kill X or switch to another console. Tried to sort it out by switching off daft thing like beryl and desktop effects and altering video refresh. Still happened even on the login screen. Put on suse. No problems but didn't like it so put ubuntu back on. Started happening again.Tried putting on edgy and palyed aorund for an hour then this time just in case I had a cd that might have been dodgy did an upgrade from a clean install with nothing but the updates downloaded. Actually got 596k download from my Sky connection ! Fastest I've got. 1 1/2 hours later rebooted logged in,went to download updates and nothing.Froze. Something on my system is not playing with fiesty, whether it's the graphics card, memory or something else I don't know but I'm only getting the problem with this. Even windows is stable. I'm one of those people who use windows when I have to and only get a problem when the kids or the wife download something by accident or because they install malware because they're friend tell them about something "cool" Now I'm reconsidering debian but I want to watch DVD's and mp4s so will need someone to tell me how to add needed files with this distro. What the equivalent of universe/multiverse in debian ?
