[LUG] Free Software workshops

Hello all

Any amendments to this - I propose to send it to the Penzance Chamber of
Commerce for a start.

Thanks

Hello

I thought your members might be interested in these events because
moving to Free Software, even free Operating Systems would not only save
your members money but also keep them up to date with International
Standards such as Open Document Formats. It would also give them freedom
to modify and adapt programmes to suit themselves and install and copy
them to as many machines as they wish without charge.

On October 28th and November 11th, the Devon and Cornwall GNU/Linux
Users Group, in association with Penzance Computers, is offering an
opportunity to try out Free Software and some different brands of the
Free Operating System. The events will take place at Penzance computers
ecafe on Wood St, Penzance (off Market Jew St) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
You may attend either or both meetings.

Members of the DCGLUG will be available for demonstrations, questioning
and further support. CDs and DVDs of some distributions such as Ubuntu
and PCLinuxOS will be available for participants to take back to the
workplace or home, install and test. Tuition will be given in dual
booting with Windows or making an exclusive installation. Further help
will always be available online via the GLUG email List and web site or
individually by arrangement. As much hands on experience as possible
will be given with the participants' choices of OS or software.

Various software will be on show, such as OpenOffice.org, the Office
suite; scribus, the Desktop Publishing programme; The Gimp, the GNU
Image Manipulation Programme. Others will be shown on request.

If there is enough interest, User Group members will arrange a workshop
event exclusively for small businesses.

I would appreciate it if you would draw your members' attention to these
workshops. I can provide posters if you should ask for members to
display.

Thank you
