[LUG] LaTeX - can someone help please

I am trying to learn LaTex type setting language, but have hit a problem

the software is installed fine, and works, however I am getting the
following error message

)
loading : Context Support Macros / PDF (2004.03.26)
) [1{/var/lib/texmf/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/pdftex.map}]
<myimage.png, id=7, 80.3pt x 80.3pt> <use myimage.png>

                $
l.42 {16 \div
              18 \times 100 = 88.2 percent}

lines 22 - 32 of my code are

\begin{tabular}{|c|ccc|r|}
    \hline
$N$ &  Chemical    &   Formula  & Mass   & remarks  \\
    \hline
1   & Sulphuric Acid & {H$_2$SO$_4$} & 98.0791 .  & g/mol \\
2   & Copper Sulphate & {CuSO$_4$} & 159.6095   & g/mol \\
    \hline
\end{tabular}
\\
\small
Table shows Chemical formula, molar mass of common Chemicals.

the line referred to in the <insterted text> part is
{16 \div 18 \times 100 = 88.2 percent}

if I press q, the document compiles fine, suggesting its not a
serious error, however should there be a $ in the above line somewhere,
if I insert this manually it should fix it, but where do I put it,

its a good language, I can write chemical formulas or simple ones
easily, which is a good thing.

thanks for any help

Paul
