[LUG] artists and GNU/Linux: Falmouth College

Dear all

Some of you have some expertise in programmes for artists. Would anyone
of you be prepared to lead a meeting at Falmouth Art College. I have
started the ball rolling with a friend who is a member of the teaching
staff there. I quote most of his reply. Maybe from small beginnings???

"Secondly we are in the grip of the very same MS (Wintel) you revile;
those of us with other ideas rarely meet to talk - your intervention has
at least provoked that.
Thirdly for some, the solution is an affectation for the Apple product;
less virused, more lovely (oh such whites and greys), more intuited
interfaces in easytorun OS environments.

SO
taking the linux route may not seem to have great benefits -
BUT there ARE those of us who:

want to get off our locked down network PCs
aren't afraid of the command line
recognise that most work is done within the application
believe in open source and its value to the higher education community

and would welcome an opportunity to talk this through.

I'm suggesting that you may be best to talk to a broader audience in
September/October.

Meanwhile why don't you come along to a talk I'm giving of some
tangential interest on sustainability and open source CMS on July 3rd,
13.30-15.00.
Were you to come lunchtime we could chat then in the 'salon' you could
see the nature of some of your audience perhaps.

I'll send you a link to the session next week; it'll be part of this
series
