This is quite a worrying development - it can only mean that the intention is 
to take Ubuntu so proprietary that it will be very difficult or impossible to 
run it as a completely Free system.

If this is not the case, I don't see why Ubuntu couldn't take the Debian 
approach with a simple yes/no option to enable proprietary software...
